India vs England - India take lead
It was a case of sheer will persisting against all odds. India had no business winning the match after Pant’s dismissal. That Bumrah-Shami partnership? I have never seen something like that. Bumrah, with a single digit batting average, took affront to English bowlers and scored 34. Cover drives. Straight drives. All class and grit. Then of course the final session, when the four horsemen of apocalypse rode in and conjured the impossible.
The two partnerships by the lower order in 2021 define the success of the present Indian cricket team.
*At Brisbane - 123 for the 7th wicket between Washington Sundar & Shardul Thakur.
*At Lord's - 89* for the 9th wicket between Mohd Shami & Jasprit Bumrah. #ENGvsIND#INDvENG
I do realise using words like ‘impossible’ is against cricket’s oldest tenet but I would be lying if I didn’t give up on multiple occasions through the day. For that matter, through the test. India were sent into bat on the opening day. They overcame that disadvantage thanks to Rahul and Rohit’s brilliant opening stand. Test cricket needed Rohit to come through and now it seems to have happened. Rahul too has found a way to bat through long periods. T20 slasher? A thing of the past.
One thing I would like to just touch upon is the Ashwin conundrum. How good does your side have to be to leave the best spinner in the world out? With India having to defeat England on a weary 5th day pitch, I thought they might just miss Ashwin, but no. On the contrary, having 4 quality pacers has made sure all of them are 100% ready to go, 100% of the times. Each spell is threatening. Each ball a possibility. Just watch this over by Bumrah to Robinson.

West Indies vs Pakistan
This tweet captures a lot of what happened in this test match.
Roach and Seales: Master & Pupil Roach: 2/47, 13, 3-30, 30* Seales: 3-70, 5-55 (1st WI teenager to pick a test 5-fer) & crucial 2*
One of the great test matches. 15-3 to 84-3 to 114-7 to 151-9 to 168-9. WI edge Pak by 1 wkt in a nail biter. Nothing like test match drama #WIvsPAKpic.twitter.com/4h5gzUXSb6
‘Please don’t put your life in the hands Of a rock and roll band Who'll throw it all away ‘
All that except replace the rock and roll band with Pakistani cricket team. I know I am being a bit harsh but as much as a Windies victory, it was Pakistan who failed to deliver the final blow. Jadon Seales, I must admit, looks really good. The action, the release is just perfect. Kemar Roach, his mentor seems to have won Windies the match, riding a series of edges.
Before we move further, Pakistan has found an ace slip fielder. A new era Younus Khan.
In 144 years history of Test cricket, only two fielders have taken 15 catches in the first 5 matches. Australia's Jack Gregory (debut in 1920) and then hundred years later Pakistan's Imran Butt (debut in 2021). #WIvPak
India vs Pakistan - Oct 24 India vs New Zealand - Oct 31 India vs Afghanistan - Nov 3 India vs B1 -Nov 5 India vs A2 - Nov 8 The main tournament fixtures
Before we talk about the games, and the sixes, and the catches. A look at Rashid Khan, ace cricketer playing at the biggest level while his country is being ravaged. he has been only home for 25 days in last 5 years. He has lost both his parents in the last 3 years. More about him here. The Hundred is weird, no doubt, but it is cricket at the end of the day. As we are heading to the final stages. here is how the crowds are taking it in.
Let us go then. First up, this man is batting so well that he may end up in the next test. No seriously. 10 sixes in an innings. Liam Livingstone. He is like Kevin Peterson but more aggressive
The ball took a real beating when #Livingstone scored a rampant 92* off 40 in #TheHundred last evening! 🤩
JUST IN: Smriti Mandhana will miss Southern Brave's next two matches, including the final. She will be heading home to see her family ahead of India's tour of Australia #TheHundredpic.twitter.com/aUlC4Vb2Tj
